She had recently taken a significant amount of photos, and at some point the camera marked the card as “not formatted”, and only gave the options to reformat the card, or power off the camera. Attaching the card to a computer via a memory card reader yielded similar results.

After some research, I found PhotoRec:

PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from Hard Disks and CDRom and lost pictures (thus, its ‘Photo Recovery’ name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the filesystem and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media’s filesystem has been severely damaged or re-formatted.

PhotoRec is free, this open source multi-platform application is distributed under GNU Public License.

Very simple to use software, was able to not only find all of the images currently on the media card, but about 1GB of since-deleted images as well. Pretty nice software, I sent them a donation.

Now that I’ve made ~150 sets, I see that non-pro accounts are limited to 3 sets, not to mention the photostream only shows the most recent 200 images; the others can’t be found in a convenient manner. Since I don’t want my ~147 sets to magically disappear, I better renew.

This is something I played around with a little at 4th of July, but I really need to get some car motion or star movement pictures, those seem to be the most popular targets.

I realized afterwards that my color settings were off, hence the yellow hue. Oh well, it will be better next time.

I toyed around with it for awhile to no avail; I had given up on it. Every once in awhile, if I smacked the thing hard enough, the picture would take correctly. Eventually I purchased the Canon Digital Rebel XTi as a replacement.

Kessa asked me a few days ago to have a camera to use in case she needed to, so I’ve been casually looking for one for her. Today I stumbled upon information about a Canon Powershot recall on tian.cc.

Tian explains the actual issue, which doesn’t sound lens related as I once thought. So it looks like I’ll be sending it in for a recall, as described on his site. Then Kessa will get a brand spanking new old camera with which she can play around.

It makes a huge mess and gives my dogs diarrhea. I’m sure the cherries would taste delicious, if there were any the birds left to ripen. I thought I’d try something new with unlimited Flickr account this year, something else to waste bandwidth and space.

I’m going to take a photo of the same small branch of the cherry tree every day (so long as I can remember, and am in town) from start to finish. I want to see it progress, bloom, bear fruit, and die.
