Invision Power Board 1.3
Update 8/31/2006:
Downloads removed. See this post for information and discussion.
Update 7/11:
Download version 1.3.1 instead of 1.3; it is newer and more secure.
There were problems with IPB2.0. I’m very disappointed that they moved away from the free market, now they sell their forum software. Version 2.0 is available from their website, but it is VERY hard to find the last free version, version 1.3.
However, I was able to locate it after hours of searching.
?>
I have located version 1.3.1 thanks to Aaron. Download that version instead.
Edit 6/28:
I remember seeing some updates after 1p3. If someone can get them to me, I can post it on my site for download.
Edit 6/25:
Added download tracking.

edit: figured it out; I had 2 entries in database for it.

Thanks a ton for letting us download it. =) I am not a fan of IPB 2.0, it’s too crammed of things that you really wouldn’t need otherwise, and I’ve found navigation is more difficult than it was in 1.x, at least from the freshly-installed versions.

Nope, read up before you threaten, 1.X was free. Install it it will say “Unregistered”, with no problems. 2.X is not free, perhaps that is what you’re talking about?

NOTHING Said,

It was free. It is if I understand correctly illegal to distribute it. If you had the files it’s perfectly legal to use it but to download it from someone’s server and use it is illegal. It’s the person who uploaded it’s copy.
Derrick, version 2.x isn’t freeware and was only free for a few days. If anyone got the copy then they can use it for as long as they want but distribution of that is illegal and that is what IPS is mainly concerned with piracy-wise. When IPB releases 2.1 2.0 will most likely become free so you hopefully will be able to get it then.
Raybdbomb Said,
August 14, 2005 @ 12:58 pm
@NOTHING: Please show me where it says that I cannot distribute a no-longer-supported version that was once freeware, and I will remove the file.

the ‘free’ 2.x version you’re referring to, to be specific, is “2.0.0 PF4″ (filename: 2p0p0).
What would be great, is if a version of 1.3 which includes the Subscriptions Manager can be posted here…

Hi,
I just installed the ipb 1.3 and its working great; thanks for the link. I just have one question. I know that you’re not a support forum but maybe you can help me to locate this code. I’ve been looking and can’t find it.
When I go to the control panel the invision board logo is very big and it doesn’t leave enough space for me to configurate everything in the forum. I have to drag the bar at the bottom to read my changes; I don’t know if i’m making sense. Can you please tell me how to find this logo in any of the codes so I can resize it and hopefully make the split in the window a little bigger?
thanks in advance

Thank you so much for the download, I have been searching for this for ages.
Unfortunatly it does not work with a standard PHP5 configuration, or MySQL 5.
I am pretty sure it is workable, but you need to correct a lot of stuff to get it to function correctly.
An example of this would be the installation SQL: Many of the tables created do not specify defaults of the right type, or defaults at all, which generally weren’t a problem with MySQL 4.x
Thanks a bunch anyway

Hello,
You may use IPB 1.3 without a license, although we would not recommend it as it is such an old version of the software with many security vulneralbilities.

Obviously they don’t care if you have a license or not… So why would they go after any one. Also if they disregard the license. That drops the “Do Not redistribute” portion (as well as everyting else) does it not?

For everyone’s information, Pit, over at IBForen.de created a mod guide a while ago, that details the steps that allow you to upgrade any IPB 1.3 board to an exact copy of version 1.3.1, (except the version number, which stays at 1.3 for legal reasons).
So no need to use the ‘trial’ 1.3.1 version, when you can use the 1.3 freeware version, with the exact same PHP coding as 1.3.1!!
Top notch hacking, check it out at: http://www.ibforen.de/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=46

You can only download 1.3.0 if you have 1.3.1 and did not pay for it and it’s not a trial then it is stolen or has been hacked

You guys with the control panel ‘blank page’ problem:
That’s due to your server running PHP5 and/or MySQL 5.
Yet again, Peter over at ibforen.de has created a mod to get your board running on either of the above server setups.
And Andrew, I have no idea what you’re talking about.
As it stands at the moment, you cannot download IPB 1.3.x legally, anywhere. Even IPS do not provide a download link, as they do not support it since they have gone paid.
The only legal software copies were if you downloaded it from IPS, when they hosted the software zip files, way back in 2003/2004, regardless of version number.
It has been stated many a time by IPS staff and in their current and past license agreement.
This subject has been dug up too many times to mention. The legalities of Raybdbomb hosting the zip file for download, are not of mine or your concern.
On an ending note, IPB 1.3 is patchable to present day security standards, at time of writing I have been running a patched 1.3 for over a year, and security has not been breached.
If only could say the same thing about IPS latest barrage of IPB security update versions! 2.1.5, 2.16 and even 2.1.7, all susceptable.
Raybdbomb Said,
August 8, 2006 @ 9:49 pm
@johan, all I need is one of the IPS staff to contact me and I will remove the files. Frankly even though they do not condone it, I think that they allow it because it’s still bringing potential customers to their market.
Moreover, while distributing something that was once free and is now no longer available is not technically correct, I think that not having access to something that was once free is just unfortunate.
johan Said,
August 21, 2006 @ 6:55 pm
Ray, I totaly agree with you. I think it’s great that you are hosting the software, and am sure that IPS are really enjoying the free publicity, keyword being ‘free’ hehh
I find it even funnier that my IPB 1.3 has never been breached and the whole IPS network was taken down in the last 2 days.
Just another reason not to pay for thier oh-so non-secure software.
Doug Said,
August 28, 2006 @ 6:40 pm
Ugh. I hate how people keep seeing it’s illegal to have this copy of IPB 1.3. Anyways, a great alternative is IceBB, which, when I last checked, is in it’s beta stages, but anyways, it’s built by the people that quit when Invision Power went all “PAYMEMONEYLOL.” Ugh, people want all money these days.
CrownVictoriaCop Said,
August 31, 2006 @ 1:30 pm
Hey, I just asked IPS through the community boards if this was legal. A member of the staff said it was illegal and redirected me to a form to report piracy. You can read the full discussion at http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showtopic=226328&st=0&#entry1414329.
