I have always found this to be true. If you can't "afford" a corner, just having it parallel to the wall it's on works a lot better than firing directly into the room. The subwoofer would probably sound better sitting on the group next to the cabinet. Then you might not have to pump up the bass level so much. Just my 2 cents.
