If you&#039;re actually trying to log into a server using telnet on the default port 23 (which nobody ever does anymore because we&#039;re all using SSH instead), you may want to try PuTTY instead (which can do either telnet or SSH).  It has nice features like being able to save a list of servers, each with its own configuration options.

But plain old telnet is very useful for other things.  I use it every day at work.</description>
