Broken Canon A70 Recalled
Awhile ago I wrote about my ‘broken’ Canon A70 digital camera. I toyed around with it for awhile to no avail; I had given up on it. Every once in awhile, if I smacked the thing hard enough, the picture would take correctly. Eventually I purchased the Canon Digital Rebel XTi as a replacement.
Kessa asked me a few days ago to have a camera to use in case she needed to, so I’ve been casually looking for one for her. Today I stumbled upon information about a Canon Powershot recall on tian.cc.
Affected products:
- Camcorders: ZR60, ZR65 MC, ZR70 MC, ZR80, ZR85, ZR90, ELURA 40 MC, ELURA 50
- Digital Cameras A60, A70, A75, A300, A310, S230, SD100, SD110, A40(*), A80(*), A85(*), A95(*), S1 IS(*), S60(*), S200(*), S330(*), S400(*), S410(*), S500(*)
*Models added as of Oct.31, 2006
Tian explains the actual issue, which doesn’t sound lens related as I once thought. So it looks like I’ll be sending it in for a recall, as described on his site. Then Kessa will get a brand spanking new old camera with which she can play around.

I had a European model MV5i video camera repaired under the same recall. I didn’t have purple, but I had streaking purported to be faulty CCD components. I received the repaired camera back in ~10 days, free of charge. Problem is, now that the CCD is fixed, the tape motor doesn’t want to play nice. It consistently says the tape needs to be ejected. Oh well.
