Canon A70 Back

My recalled Canon Powershot A70 came back yesterday. The CCD censor was indeed the issue, because it has a bill for $0. Took a phew photos with it to test, works great.

This is a pretty neat little camera, I’m sure Kessa will get good use of it.

Reminder #235236: Don’t buy (anything) without reading reviews first.

Sunday, started looking for a bike.
Monday, bought a bike. Pretty impressed, I go for a certain quality per price ratio, and this seemed high.
Monday on the way home, bought a bike lock and helmet.
The bike lock was a Schwinn 12MM Cable Combo Bicycle Lock, ~$20 at Target.
Monday night, set the combination on the bike lock to my favorite four digit Fibonacci prime number.
Tuesday, Wednesday, rode the bike to work, locking it up in front. Unlocked it before coming home.
Thursday I rode it into work, only I can’t get the lock off the bike. Frustrated, I take the bike to my office with me.

I can’t figure this out. Why would a bike lock combination just change? I can’t really find info about this, but the reviews on this lock are horrible. I really should have looked at them before buying it. I think I’ll make my next one a “Hands Off Bike” U-Lock w/key

PS2 Singstar Microphone with Rock Band Xbox 360

Q: Can a SingStar Playstation 2 microphone work on the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band?
A: No.

Rockband’s official answer is “we think all USB mics work with Rock Band.” Apparently this is exempt.

Bicycle

It’s a shame that I don’t ride a bike to work, as close as I live to my job. It now costs me $50 to fill up my tank. Even though it only happens every other week or so, I think that’s WAY too much money.

So I decided to substitute one tank for a bike, and ride it to and fro work all summer at least. I’m looking on Craigslist for a ~$50 bike, hopefully to have by the end of this week. Then I just have to buy a helmet and lock and I’m set. Hilarity ensues, stay tuned for hawt pix.

Tethering on a Treo 700wx

Tethering, or connecting to the internet through a cell phone’s data plan, is possible on many modern phones. One of which is my phone, the Sprint Palm Treo 700wx, running Windows Mobile 2003.

Since I have the Sprint Employee Referral Program for my phone, I have included in my plan free unlimited data, or Power Vision as they call it. So while I am not very mobile, I thought I’d give tethering on my laptop through my phone a try.

I downloaded and installed PDANet on my Windows XP system, and connected my phone via its data cable to the laptop. After installing, on the phone I went to the PDANet tray and clicked connect. Afterwards, the Windows system had a popup indicating it had connected.

From my couch, I get 2 bars of signal strength (out of 4), and various bandwidth tests I did rated me at ~220Kbps. Not great, but definitely usable. I really wish I researched this before the New York trip, man was it a pain to get a constant connection going.
