No More IPB

I’ve had enough people point it out to me that the fact that I hosted old Invision Power Boards may not have been considered “legal”. If people do not want me to provide access to IPB 1.3.x, or the once free 2.0.0, then so be it, I’ve removed access. Personally I don’t understand why someone would search for a site to download the now unavailable IPB 1.3.1, download the software, then either report it to Invision Power Services as an unauthorized distributor, or continually question the legality of it. Yes these posts were my most popular as far as comments, page views and downloads, but that’s I really did not host them for the “ad money”, or any malicious intent. I hosted the files because I loved the usability and the customizability of the free Invision Power Board.

I left the files up for over a year because I felt that although redistributing was obviously against the licensing of Invision Power Board, IPS would either take a hint that the software they once offered as free still had a market.

To Invision Power Services, I would recommend you once again making a free version of your board, because over 16,000 people downloaded the software that you once released as free, but have since made unavailable. Sure it’s all about money to you, but don’t forget that it is to us, also. There are other free boards out there, and I suppose you are forcing us to choose those brands instead.

That is all. Feel free to comment.

Xlink Kai on XboX with XBMC

I’ve been running XBMC on my modded xbox for awhile. Recently I saw an option for XLink Kai, and heard some friends talk about it.

So I bought a 100 ft ethernet cable, and hooked up my xbox to my switch. Here are the steps I took to get it working.

  1. Install the XLink client on your PC.
  2. Sign up, login.
  3. Select connect, then enter the arena.
  4. Change your status to Hosting a Game (if you are)
  5. Enter the statistics into the XLink portion of your XBMC
  6. Start up a game, and go into the System Link/Multiplayer Mode. If games exist, you should see them there.

Some games are pretty laggy, but it’s pretty fun!

DS Lite Flashed

Phil Johnston brought over his new DS Lite. We flashed it with my passme2, which works with all DS firmware versions.

He’s saving for a m3 micro sd, which comes out later this month.

It Matters Where You Go To College

I was informed by another manager in Oracle that all college graduate candidates have to come from Oracle’s college recruite program, which has a list of college schools it takes candidates from. University of Portland is not one of them.

So wait, you mean I just wasted $80k+ in tuition and expenses, not to mention the $100k+ of opportunity cost just to be told that where I went wasn’t good enough?

After all, it is an ABET accredited Computer Science program

University of Portland
Portland, OR

Date of Next General Review: 2009 - 10
Computer Science BS [2004]

I thought I was looking at the opportunity of a lifetime, when it turns out I was never given a chance…

Edit: I just got a call, it’s back on!
