I saw this today when my browser (Firefox 3.0.1 — latest on Windows XP — patched) wouldn’t let me copy and paste text. It would be the same potentially malware [http://windowsxp-privacy.com/?id=...] result every time I CTRL-V’d. After some digging around, I realized that it was localized to my browser (I thought for sure it was a system issue at first), so to fix the issue, I closed the browser and re-opened. The issue was resolved.

Considering the manual effort required to update Flash, combined with the fact that I usually only install Flash when a computer is built and never update it, this leads me to believe this issue is widespread and not going to be fixed anytime soon. It’s a minor annoyance, but still, a pretty neat little exploit.

Now I don’t believe I use 250 GB/month, but I might. I don’t subscribe to a cable plan, so I download a lot of video onto my HTPC, so it’s feasible that I could near and exceed this limit.

I find the whole thing annoying and frustrating. I hope that a new ISP comes in my area soon…

I’m super stoked.

For awhile I’ve been pretty disappointed by the audio on my HTPC. The subwoofer never really worked, and the audio levels were pretty abysmal. I have a JVC RX-6030VBK 5.1 setup with a toslink cable going between my Mac Mini and the receiver. The subwoofer is behind a door in my entertainment center, so the already-quiet sound is muffled. I’ve been thinking of replacing this system for awhile, because the audio quality is very weak.

Last night, I played around with the configuration on the unit, and set the subwoofer to +10 audio and the other 4 channels to -10. I tested it with some bass tracks, and man it was ground-shaking great. The wife and I watched some TV on it and were pleased with the experience. I think I’ll keep this system after all (at least for awhile).

So instead, I’m going to start listening to some podcasts instead. Recently I’ve been really hooked on 1UP podcasts and the Homebrewcast for Nintendo DS and Sony PSP Homebrew.

My question: does anyone out there in teh interwebs listen to podcasts? What are you listening to while at work? What are your favorite podcasts?

This is something I played around with a little at 4th of July, but I really need to get some car motion or star movement pictures, those seem to be the most popular targets.

For example, sometimes when I click on a music share with a password, there is no way to escape the resulting screen. No matter how hard I try, I end up having to go to a virtual terminal and killing the rhythmbox process. I have no need for music shares, or this might be an issue.

Another example, about 90% of the time that I eject my iPod, I have to click OK to a dialog that says “Cannot unmount the volume ‘IPOD’”, with details “Cannot remove directory”. /media/IPOD is owned by my user with perms 0755, so that doesn’t really make any sense. After clicking OK, the media is actually ejected. *shrug* not a big deal.

The most annoying example — and something that makes me not want to use this player again — was yesterday. Rhythmbox was playing The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression That I Get from my iPod when the player froze. It locked up. I switched to a terminal and killed it, which led to a defunct process, but the window was still open and still very much locked up. Because I hadn’t written anything to the iPod recently, I decided to ignore the flashing red circle and disconnect it anyway. I eventually had to close the window manager and reboot because Rhythmbox was giving me such a hard time. I left work yesterday and thought nothing of it.

This morning I came in, connected my iPod as usual, and came to find there wass no music on there. All of the photos were in tact, so it wasn’t a complete wipe, but every single song (of my ~15GB collection) was gone; and of course not backed up. I knew this day would come someday… just didn’t really want it to be today =\

Looks like the MSI Wind is the best deal, now if only I could find one…
